The Record
If you have watched a video essay, a documentary short or a science channel in the last decade you have heard Chris Zabriskie; his Attribution-licensed catalogue is the unofficial house band of the free internet, and Cylinders is the record where the piano pieces got serious. Nine numbered tracks, each built from a few figures that repeat and shift the way Riley and Glass do, patient and unhurried, thirty-seven minutes that were designed to sit under other people's pictures and turn out to hold up perfectly well on their own. Cylinder Two and Cylinder Five are the ones you will recognise.
Released free in January 2014 through the Free Music Archive, which is where the Internet Archive's copy comes from.

Chris Zabriskie releases his whole catalogue under the Creative Commons Attribution licence — his own site states that the songs are "available for free use in creative projects" under it, with full-quality files on Bandcamp (chriszabriskie.com/aboutme, read 2026-08-26); Creative Commons' #cc10 feature and the Free Music Archive's listing say the same.
