Treehugger (2006)

Daniel Maze · 2006 · 26 min

Daniel Maze’s Treehugger puts noise alongside melodic electronic composition, rather than reserving it for a separate experimental project. The 12rec notes discuss ‘April’ and ‘Pantomime’ as house-oriented tracks, while ‘Manhattan’ and ‘Playground Miniaturette’ move toward an indietronic approach. The title piece and ‘Ambulance Chase’ introduce piano figures, guitar picking and vocal samples in the label’s account. The six-track order ends with ‘Pantomime.’ The label connects these pop-facing pieces with Maze’s parallel work in drone, harsh noise and experimental music on Sinewaves. Both approaches form part of its account of his music.
