The Record
Dave Merson-Hess’s Music from the film PRESENCE is a score made with director Bryan Kramer for the science-fiction film whose premiere the source places at Seattle’s 2009 STIFF. The composer names mellotron, analog synthesizers and software emulations, organ, vibraphone, delayed drums and electric guitar among the tools. He credits Jessica Roberts with arrangement help on ‘Onomatopoeia’ and ‘Drive’ and describes working in Richmond, New York and on a train between them. Seventeen entries include a bonus ‘Drive Outtake.’ The specific scoring and arrangement account distinguishes this soundtrack from a themed collection that only borrows film imagery.
