The Record
Gardens From Light’s second Birds Of Joy And Sorrow volume continues a two-part work by the northern English duo I.Sparke and S.Illidge. Resting Bell describes twelve conceptual pieces across both volumes, framed around Russian and eastern European mythological figures with drones, string textures and field recordings. This second volume contains six entries: ‘Alkonost,’ ‘Karzel,’ ‘Sariel,’ ‘Drekavac,’ ‘Koschei’ and ‘Kikimora.’ The source associates Alkonost with the volume’s bird imagery, while the first volume’s Sirin context remains separate.
