The Record

Across the Threshold follows Renzu's Reiha EP with a twelve-track path through Japanese references and electronic composition. The release commentary identifies folklore in “Kuda-gitsune” and “Zashiki-warashi,” a Dennō Coil connection in “Amasawa,” and a Samurai Shodown character in “Nakoruru.” Renzu specifically links an arpeggiated glockenspiel idea to the television series' music. Later titles move toward “Stage,” the album's title piece and “Memories of Earth.” Those references give the release a cultural vocabulary while leaving the label's imagined journey open to interpretation.
