The Record
Rob Steady's Ask No Lies is framed by 12rec as a more abstract turn in Stéphane's work after an earlier Obadia release with ADIM. The label describes genre play, melodic fragments and cut-up approaches rather than assigning the music a single dance-floor function. Fifteen pieces move from “Redo New Things” and “Sculpture de Freins” through “Ballet de Pelleteuses,” “Melting Crosswords” and “Dust Breeding,” ending on “Scratching While Breathing in a Theremin Choir.” The first CDR edition included a small poster, giving the abstract electronic program a parallel visual presentation alongside its fifteen-piece sequence.
