The Record

Derek Trucks Band's Fez recording is organized around returns and transitions rather than a simple run of isolated songs. “Elvin” encloses a jam near the start, and “Otto” contains a “For My Brother” passage. Eric Krasno joins for the source-marked stretch from “Everything Is Everything” through “Chicken Strut,” “Egg 15” and “Detuning.” The second disc sets “Soul Serenade” beside “Rastaman Chant,” then moves toward “Mr. PC,” “Naima” and a closing “Afro Blue.”
