The Record
Izmar’s Conscious EP adds sitar to a mix that Monotonik already associated with the Dutch musician’s voice and live instruments. The description identifies a wordless-vocal opening ‘walking,’ scratched and sampled elements in ‘ippeoppe,’ and another sitar passage in the closing ‘weird friend.’ With only three indexed pieces, the EP documents a particular extension of Izmar’s earlier electronic approach rather than a large career survey. Its relationship to the earlier Aze albums is label-provided background. Monotonik describes wordless vocals and sitar in ‘Walking,’ scratching and percussion in ‘Ippe Oppe,’ and a sitar passage within the downtempo closing ‘Weird Friend.’ Those song-specific details make the three-piece sequence unusually well documented.
