The Record

Matt Nathanson’s Joe’s Pub recording brings the early and late April 9 shows together, preserving introductions, false starts and brief song fragments as well as complete performances. ‘Curve of the Earth’ appears after a short first attempt in the early set, while the late set includes ‘Bare’ and ‘First Time’ attempts. The taper identifies covers by Journey, Prince, Radiohead, Patty Griffin, U2 and Cat Stevens, and marks ‘Little Victories’ as unplugged. That documentation makes this a record of an evening’s two distinct sets, with their interruptions and reprises, rather than a polished single-set compilation.
