The Record

Coax’s Blackened EP introduces the Norwegian producer to Monotonik through five short, individually titled electronic pieces. The label identifies Coax as Reflex, whose earlier work included a self-released Showcase CD, and describes this debut around electro rhythms and game-like melodic writing. The sequence moves from the numerical title ‘1984’ through ‘Byzantum’ and ‘Shadowrun’ to ‘Lich’s Lullaby’ and ‘Something Wicked.’ The thirteen-minute scale suits this introduction, moving between the label’s game-music associations and Coax’s electro writing.
