The Record
Beak's Bishop Whitney EP continues a Monotonik run that includes Amoral Mayor Earwig and El Hacedor. The label connects the project to strongly played guitar, acoustic sounds and cut-up percussion, placing it within IDM without flattening those acoustic components. Five pieces run from “Context Clues” through “Teach Texas Manners” and “Buggy Ride” to “Cakes” and “Essines' Hair.” Its release essay describes different approaches across that sequence, including an indie-pop-like opening to “Buggy Ride” and a longer closing stretch.
