The Record
Derrick Hart's Songs from a Cross (the Sea) is introduced as the second entry in 12rec's America, the Beautiful series, following Nic Bommarito's Harp Fragments. Four tracks make it one of the label's shortest releases: “Sunchild,” the instrumental “Sad Leafless Trees,” “You're Winning So I Quit” and “Rest Well.” The label describes clarinet and cello in the closer and connects the project to American folk and idiosyncratic pop approaches.
