William Castle's showmanship at its most efficient: five strangers, one locked house, ten thousand dollars apiece, and Vincent Price distributing party favors in the shape of loaded pistols. Castle famously flew a plastic skeleton over theater audiences on a wire at the appropriate moment. Take the gimmick away and it still works — Price is having an obvious blast, and the acid vat and the walking skeleton are staged with a carnival barker's sense of timing.
