The Feature

Scientists on an isolated island accidentally breed shrews the size of dogs, which is convenient, because the shrews are dogs wearing shag carpet. The siege plot is tighter than it has any right to be, James Best plays the whole thing admirably straight, and the escape-under-oil-drums finale is genuine low-budget ingenuity. A fixture of late-night television for decades and a permanent resident of the so-bad-it's-good canon.

Chosen print (2026-08-17): Archive.org item The_Killer_Shrews_1959, file The_Killer_Shrews.mp4 — 0.71 GB, 640x480, 68.9 min.

The most-downloaded standalone copy on Archive.org (71k downloads). Culled along the way: a double-feature DVD rip, which is not a citable single-film source.

Selected from our vetted candidate queue after the automated reject rules and the owner eye-pass. Torrent built 2026-08-19 from this exact file, verified byte-for-byte against Archive.org's published MD5.

Public Domain

Why It's Free

Public domain by long-standing distribution consensus: published 1959, renewal required in the 28th year and by all accounts never filed. The renewal window (1986–87) falls in the Copyright Office's post-1977 online records rather than the scanned CCE volumes, so the online renewal search is the named remaining verification step before the torrent publishes.
