The Record

The Grateful Dead's Hollywood Bowl show gives “Seastones” its own placement between the opening set and the later program. “The Promised Land” starts the evening, with “Sugaree,” “Scarlet Begonias” and “Around and Around” among the first-set selections. The later sequence opens “China Cat Sunflower” into “I Know You Rider,” then eventually sends “Playing in the Band” through “Wharf Rat,” “Truckin'” and a “Nobody's Fault but Mine” jam before returning. “Ship of Fools” and “Sugar Magnolia” finish that portion, followed by “U.S. Blues.” The return to “Playing in the Band” gives the second half a recurring theme, while “Seastones” occupies a distinct position outside either main song set.
