The Record

Grateful Dead's December 6, 1980 performance at Mill Valley Recreation Center in Mill Valley, CA is preserved in this recording.

This acoustic Grateful Dead appearance was a Christmas benefit associated with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, with children among its audience. “Dire Wolf,” “Monkey and the Engineer” and “Bird Song” lead toward “Ripple,” making a compact program distinct from the band's electric concerts. The source credits Betty Cantor-Jackson's AKG microphone-and-Sony cassette capture; later radio circulation is also documented in the item notes. The source recording and release notes document this edition.
