The Record

The Grateful Dead's October 3 Warfield program comprises an acoustic set followed by two electric sets. “Dire Wolf,” “Monkey and the Engineer,” “Dark Hollow” and “China Doll” appear in the acoustic portion, ending with “Bird Song” into “Ripple.” The first electric set starts “Jack Straw” and “Sugaree,” finishing “The Music Never Stopped.” The last set begins “Scarlet Begonias”/“Fire on the Mountain,” then returns to “Playing in the Band” after drums, space and “The Wheel.” “Black Peter” and “Good Lovin'” precede “Brokedown Palace.” The three-part format makes the thirty-file sequence a broader performance document than an all-electric tour set.
