The Record

The Grateful Dead's December 29 Winterland show moves from “Jack Straw” and “They Love Each Other” toward “Sugaree” and “Promised Land” in the opening set. The second links “Bertha” and “Good Lovin',” then places “Sunrise” before a long Playing-centered sequence that includes “China Cat Sunflower,” “I Know You Rider” and “China Doll.” Space, drums and “Not Fade Away” lead back to Playing. The complete audience-reel program reaches “Terrapin Station” after returning to the Playing theme and ends with the second encore, “Johnny B. Goode.”
