The Record

The Grateful Dead's New Year's Eve Winterland program stretches across three sets. “Sugar Magnolia” opens the music and “Sunshine Daydream” closes the first set after “Scarlet Begonias,” “Fire on the Mountain” and “From the Heart of Me.” The middle set moves through “Terrapin Station,” “Playing in the Band” and drums, with source-marked guests joining portions of the program. The last set returns to “Dark Star,” folds through “The Other One,” and reaches “Wharf Rat” and “Saint Stephen.” The encores end with “And We Bid You Good Night.” An opening New Year greeting stays separate from the songs.
