Milhaven's I.M. Wagner EP grew out of a forced change of recording space. The Bochum post-rock band's old rehearsal room, in a school building judged unsafe, became unavailable; Sven Swift and the group restarted in a new location after a two-month search. The four-song result contrasts the extended opening of “Oh! Great Pacific” and the partly improvised “Lord of Birds” with “Clean Room” and the final acoustic piece “Firnis.” The label's account connects those differences to the sessions themselves, describing a summer recording that followed the colder, more intimate circumstances of the band's earlier Bars Closing Down.
